Spiritual Direction

People often ask for a definition of spiritual direction. The Director of Spiritual Directors International explains that “Spiritual direction explores a deeper relationship with the spiritual aspect of being human.  Simply put, spiritual direction is helping people tell their sacred stories everyday”.  I would add that spiritual direction assist people to hear and explore their sacred story which is stirring within, yet discovered or owned.

My style of spiritual direction is rooted in the Judeo-Christian tradition with a conviction that, that which we seek is the divine within us calling for our attention and unity.  I have over thirty years of experience with spiritual direction and the continual exploration of my own interior world.  The spiritual giants that I often reference or model are:  Theresa of Avila, Thomas Merton, Henri Nouwen, Francis of Assisi, Martin Luther, Parker Palmer, Joyce Rupp and others.

Retreat Leader | Threads of Spirituality

Spiritual direction is typically a one-on-one session where the client and the Spirit set the tone and topic for exploration.  I am holistic in my approach, integrating one’s spiritual movement with the events taking place within one’s domestic life.  It is important to know that spiritual direction is not counseling or psychoanalysis for any particular aspect of your life.  It provides companionship and clarity for you, as you travel into deeper layers of your interior.  It is with great humility that I accept the invitation to be your Spiritual Director and believe that each session and insight is inspired by the God of our understanding.
